     In class today, we completed an anticipation guide for our first O. Henry story, A Retrieved Reformation. We also started to read the story together in class. Please finish reading the story using the following website. (There is an audio button on the right hand side if you want to listen as you read!) Please remember to answer the 8 questions from the orange sheet as well!

Thursday, November 19

     You and your group will be presenting your puppet shows tomorrow in class! Be sure that you come prepared with your scripts, puppets and any props that you will be using. Also, please be sure to respond to Blog #4 tonight!

 

Tuesday, November 17

     We worked with our groups to begin our original fairy tale, legend or folktale. Be sure to think about some things to add to your stories for tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a work day in class. PuppetShow.doc

     Please read the Trickster Tale you picked up in class and complete the 6 questions on the back of your handout. If you do not have the story, you can google the name of the story and read it online.

     Today we discussed plot. Please read the modern short story that you chose today in class. Once you read through the story, create your own plot diagram on the back of the story. Please label each of the 5 parts and how each connects to your story!

Tuesday, October 20

     Tonight you will have a chance to read The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe. We went through how to use the interactive online version in class. The directions for how to use this are attached below.

If you are unable to access the online version from your computer, you may practice your active reading skills directly on a text version of the story. Please print out the text version below, and use a highlighter or a pen to underline passages where you have questions, connections, and personal thoughts. Please write your ideas in the margins. I also have a vocabulary list attached as well, since you won't have the benefit of the online definitions. Good luck with this crazy story!

     Today we watched the Simpsons parody of the Monkey's Paw. You also had the opportunity to choose which version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow you would like to work with for the rest of the week. We will begin reading tomorrow in class!

     We started reading The Monkey's Paw in class today. Please read pages 1-5 and answer the questions TONIGHT and pages 6-10 for homework TOMORROW. (I will not see you for class tomorrow!)      We practiced a bit with problem-solution today by listening to a NPR clip. We also had the chance to read a piece about Women's Suffrage and completed a graphic organizer. We will have a few minutes at the beginning of class tomorrow to finish up this activity.

Wednesday, September 16

     Today we had our LMC Orientation. We also took a non-fiction pre assessment and had a chance to look for a new Independent Reading Book. We will be back in the classroom tomorrow to begin our new unit. Please be sure to bring your new IRB to class on Friday!

     We worked in the lab today to finish up our Book Reviews. If you have not already picked up a new Independent Reading Book, please be sure to find one and bring it to class on Friday!
